Convert to Virtual to a Hyper-V server fails with "0xe000848c - Unable to attach to a resource"

Issue



When attempting to covert a physical machine to virtual the convertion job may fail with the following errors.


Error



Job Log:
Final error: 0xe000848c - Unable to attach to a resource.  Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again.  If the server or resource no longer exists, remove it from the selection list. Edit the selection list properties, click the View Selection Details tab, and then remove the resource.
Final error category: Resource Errors

 

Debug Log:
[engidrapi]          -  Info: volumeMF->GetFileSystemProperties() failed for volume <DRIVELETTER:>.
[engidrapi]          - WARNING: Could not access the volume \\?\Volume{GUID.EN_US}\. Failed with (0x3ED).


 


Solution



This issue is resolved in Backup Exec 2014 or later versions.

A hotfix is now available for this issue in the current version(s) of the product(s) mentioned in this article. Refer to the Hotfix link under Related Documents at the end of this article to obtain the hotfix needed to resolve the issue.

Backup Exec 2014 Rev 1786 Service Pack 1 (TECH216178).

 

To resolve this issue and receive the new Backup Exec improvements please upgrade to the current version of Backup Exec.
