Backup Exec Pre-installation Environment Check reports error V-225-290 during the upgrade of a beta version

While upgrading Backup Exec 2014 BETA1 to BETA2, or a beta version to the RTM build, the Pre-installation Environment Check reports the error listed above in the “Backup Exec Version” listing. This error can occur if an installation over a previous beta version is cancelled, or if the installation fails before it completes.


Error



A corrupt or an invalid configuration of Symantec Backup Exec was found on this computer. You must remove the previous versions and then restart the installation. For more information on removing Symantec Backup Exec, see the following technote:

Solution



Using the registry editor, check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\14.1\Install to see if the “Path” registry value is missing. This registry value may have been deleted if the previous installation was cancelled. If that registry value is missing, and all of the other checks pass, you can safely ignore this warning and continue with the Backup Exec installation.
