Shortly before the NetBackup 126.96.36.199 Maintenance Release was released, it was determined that recent changes made by Microsoft in their Windows 2012 R2 Update 1 would prevent granular recovery from working correctly when the NetBackup for Hyper-V role was used on backup hosts with the above mentioned update applied. Rather than delaying the release, Symantec decided to ship the maintenance release as scheduled and then provide a future hotfix to return this functionality.
Note: Support for Hyper-V with Windows 2012 and 2012 R2 clients began in NetBackup 188.8.131.52.
After applying Windows 2012 R2 U1 to a Hyper-V server, file-level recovery is no longer possible on virtual machines (any guest OS) residing on that server when using NetBackup 184.108.40.206.
On Windows 2012 R2 servers without the update applied, file-level recovery functions as expected.
On Windows 2012 servers, file-level recovery functions as expected.
Microsoft changed some nomenclature for writer metadata files in update 2919355. That affected the behavior of the NetBackup for Hyper-V.
This fix uses the new writer metadata file name and maps the correct set of virtual disk files on Windows 2012 R2 U1.
The formal resolution for this issue (Etrack 3500562) is included in the following version:
- NetBackup 7.6 Maintenance Release 3 (220.127.116.11)
NetBackup 18.104.22.168 is now available - download information can be found in the Related Article linked below.
Apply the attached hotfix to affected NetBackup 22.214.171.124 clients (including the client on the backup host) to restore this functionality to Windows 2012 R2 clients where this Update has been applied.
Note: This hotfix is no longer publicly available, as all of its fixes are included in the NetBackup 126.96.36.199 Maintenance Release. If any of these issues are experienced in a 7.6.0.x environment, the supported resolution is to apply the latest maintenance release.
