Issue



 After upgrading to Backup Exec 2014, the Deduplication Manager (SPAD) is seen to crash on startup.


Error



 Unable to start Deduplication Manager service. Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly.


Solution



Workaround:

  1. Open command prompt as administrator.
  2. Run command: "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\openssl.exe" rand -out "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\random-seed" 512
  3. Restart Backup Exec Deduplication services.
