When performing a catalog operation on an Arcserve created media using software compression, an error occurs in the catalog job log.


Error



Cataloging SW Compressed ArcServe Tape. Backup Exec does not support this operation


Solution



Backup Exec cannot restore data from media that was backed up on ARCserve using software compression.

The following messages occur in the catalog job log (Figure 1).

When attempting to restore from the media, no data will be restored (Figure 2).

Workaround:

Try running a catalog job on the media. Even if the catalog job fails, try restoring the data from the tape by unchecking the beginning backup date as sometimes this will enable the view of the restore selections on the media.
