VERITAS Volume Replicator (tm) 3.1 for Windows 2000 - Disaster Recovery of Microsoft Exchange 2000

Solution

VERITAS Volume Replicator for Windows 2000 now supports disaster recovery of Microsoft Exchange 2000 by using the VERITAS Volume Replicator for Windows 2000 Disaster Recovery of a Microsoft Exchange 2000 Database Solution Guide. The solution requires a utility, VxMvMbx, to be used to redirect the mailboxes from the old server to the new server during a migrate or takeover operation. This utility modifies the active directory to change the server ownership of the mailboxes in the given storage group. However, it does not move the mailbox data. Instructions on the use of VxMvMbx are included in the Solution Guide.

The Solution Guide and the VxMvMbx utility can be downloaded as a package, VVR_E2K_254151.exe. Use the following steps to download and extract this package:

1. Scroll to the bottom of this techfile and click Download Now
2. When prompted, select "Save This Program To Disk" and click OK.
3. At the next screen, select a location to save the file and click Save.
4. After the download completes, click Open to open the VERITAS Self-Extractor. Optionally, click Close if you prefer to extract the file at a later time. When you are ready to extract it, navigate to the location where it was saved and double-click the file to open the VERITAS Self-Extractor.
5. Select a location to save the extracted files and then extract the contents by clicking the "Extract" button. The package contains the following files:
  • A package ID

  • VxMvMbx.exe - The VxMvMbx utility
6. Click OK at the message "All files have been extracted."
