Solution



Robot inventory fails with the error - "Unable to Initialize robot (204)" when both magazines are not loaded.
The robot is capable of holding one or two magazines, each magazine holding eight slots. When VERITAS NetBackup (tm) issues an inventory command, the robot comes back with the first eight slots from the first magazine. The inventory fails on the ninth slot if the second magazine is not loaded and instead has a blank filler in place. Adding an empty second magazine will solve the problem temporarily.
The robot generates the following error:
Sense code = 0x3b, Code qualifier = 0x11
for slots 9 to 16 which can be verified by testing with the robtest utility after configuring the robot and drives within NetBackup device management:

Updated firmware on the robot reports extra SCSI information not available when the device was previously tested.
0x3B - ASC value (in hexadecimal)

MEDIUM MAGAZINE NOT ACCESSIBLE - Error or exception indicated by the ASC/ASCQ pair value

The current workaround is to use an additional blank magazine in the second bay or fill it with tapes too. A permanent resolution is planned for Maintenance Pack 4 (MP4).
