Issue



This hotfix addresses the following known issues with Application Metering 6.1 :
  • The denialnode.InnerText error in Notification Server log (article 25738).
  • Corrupted stop events (escape character issues with quoted command lines) / XML exception errors in Notification Server log (article 27594).
  • Email errors in Notification Server log when an application monitor policy has denial enabled (article 28813).
  • Application Metering Agent upgrade on foreign language operating system (article 25833).
  • Schedule XML errors when Inventory Solution Integration is enabled on the Application Metering Configuration page (article 26233).

Note: This hotfix includes Application Metering Hotfix 1 (article 26395 and article 26114).

Solution



To install hotfix 2 on the Notification Server, follow the instructions below :

Note: This hot fix is not needed for Application Metering 6.1 SP 2 (build 6.1.32) since it is included in the 6.1 SP 2 release.

Upgrade from Application Metering 6.1.x

  1. From the Altiris Console, select Configuration > Solutions Center > Upgrade/Install Additional Solutions.
  2. On the Solution Center page, click the Currently Installed tab
  3. Scroll to Altiris Application Metering Solution and click Upgrade. A new dialog window will open confirming your selection

    Note: You may be prompted to overwrite setup files when executing this installation. Click Yes to continue.
  4. Click Start to download and launch the setup files automatically. Only the Application Metering Solution will be installed, and not the other dependencies such as Package Rule Management or Patch Management Solution. 

After the upgrade is complete, Application Metering is reset to the default settings. Reconfigure your solution and agent settings on the Application Metering Solution Configuration page (Configuration > Solutions Settings > Application Metering > Application Metering Solution Configuration). This page sets data purging, summary data, discovery and Inventory solution integration. For example data purging is set by default for three months. Also review and reconfigure the Application Monitors page (Tasks > Software Management > Application Metering > Application Monitors). This page sets the Application Monitors, which enables the Start/Start events and Application denials.

  3. Click Altiris Application Metering Solution.

New Install

Application Metering Agent Installation

To install the Hotfix 2 on clients, please follow the instructions below:

Note: If you have a large number of managed computers, install the agent during off-peak hours to minimize network traffic. We recommend that you do not install the agent on server operating systems.
  1. From the Altiris Console, click the Configuration tab.
  2. In the left pane, select Configuration > Solution Settings > Application Metering > Application Metering Agent Rollout > Win32 Application Metering Agent Install/Upgrade.
  3. In the right pane, configure the installation policy: Select Enable then In Applies to collections, select a collection. In Scheduling Options, select when and how to install the agent.
  4. Click Apply.
