I) Patch ID
Patch ID: 3.2.1-004
Targeted Versions: Bare Metal Restore 3.2.1 for TSM
Platforms: AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, Windows NT, Windows 2000
If you are running BMR using a special binary (efix), then do not apply
this patch. Contact BMR customer support for instructions on how to proceed.
This patch contains all of the fixes in the earlier patches
(3.2.1-001 through 3.2.1-003). It may be applied on top of an earlier patch,
or on a base 3.2.1 system.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
II) Warnings and Caveats
a) While applying the 3.2.1-003 or above on HP platforms you may see
the following error message:
mv: hp/bmrd: cannot write: Text file busy
You may safely ignore this message.
b) On AIX platforms you may be asked the following question:
override mode 755 on aix/bmrd?
You should answer yes to this question.
c) An HP BMR client must be restored using SRT at the same OS level
as the client. For example an 11i BMR client requires an 11i SRT.
d) Using TSM 5.1 on Solaris 2.6 requires two OS patches to be installed into
the SRT before a restore will work. TSM Patches 107733-09 (or later) and
105591-11 (or later) need to be installed into an SRT with the
bmrcreatesrt command.
e) Problems have been encountered restoring a TSM 4.2 client using an SRT
that contains TSM version 5.1. This combination should be avoided.
f) When applying patch 3.2.1-003 or above on a BMR Server before
bmrsetupserver has been executed, the message:
"Could not restart BMR server daemon."
will be displayed. In this situation, this is an erroneous error
message. The application of the patch was actually successful.
g) After bmr-3.2.1-001 or above has been applied on Solaris BMR servers,
a message may be logged in /var/bmr/log/bmrd.err indicating
libucb.so could not be found. This error is a result of a BMR
packaging prerequisite and is not associated with any BMR patch.
Installation of package SUNWscpu onto the Solaris machine will
resolve the error.
h) The following steps will need to be applied to HP-UX systems with
non-root volume groups following a restore to import and activate
the non-root volume groups:
a. /usr/bin/mv /etc/lvmtab /etc/lvmtab.bak
b. /sbin/vgscan -v
c. For each non-root volume group:
/sbin/vgimport -v /dev/<vg_name> /dev/dsk/<dsk_name>
d. /sbin/vgchange -a y
e. Mount all missing filesystems using /usr/sbin/mount, or reboot
the system.
i) After patch 3.2.1-001 or above has been applied on Windows NT or Windows
2000 clients, boot floppies will need to be re-created prior
to initiating restore operations.
j) Never install a Sun patch into a BMR SRT that does not support the
patchadd -C flag since this can cause damage to the file system of
BMR File Servers, JumpStart File Servers, or other network based boot
images. See TechNote
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/252922.htm for more details.
k) On Windows 2000 and Windows NT platforms, you must be logged in as
the same administrator account that originally installed BMR. in
order to perform the BMR client upgrade tasks
l) A BMR Main Server cannot be installed on a Solaris machine that
is running version 3.1.0.6 of the ADSM Client.
m) If you are running TSM 5.1.0 or later on BMR main server, you must
apply MP3 or later before running bmrsetupserver.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
III) What's new
