Solution

When pushing out the Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS) from the Backup Exec media server, the message "Remote calls are not allowed for this process" may appear (Figure 1) or "Access is Denied" will be returned.

Figure 1

To correct this error, click Start | Run and type dcomcnfg on both the Backup Exec media server and the remote target server. Ensure that the Enable Distributed COM on this computer check box has been selected in the Default Properties tab of the Distributed COM Configuration Properties dialog box (Figure 2). This will grant the Windows Installer the necessary access to perform remote procedure calls required by the installation.

Figure 2

To enable Distributed COM on Windows 2003, click Start | Run and type dcomcnfg. This will bring up the Component Services MMC. Expand Component Services and click Computers. Right-click My Computer and click Properties (Figure 3).

Figure 3

Click the Default Properties tab, and ensure that the Enable Distributed COM on this computer check box has been selected (Figure 4).

Figure 4

Once Distributed COM has been enabled on both the Backup Exec media server and the remote target computer, retry the Remote Agent installation. This message should no longer be encountered, and the Remote Agent installation should install successfully.
