How to test SQL connectivity within a Backup Exec 9.x and 10.x Shared Storage Environment
Solution
When troubleshooting Backup Exec (tm) for Windows Servers
Shared Storage Option (SSO), verifying SQL connectivity is a critical component
in making sure the environment is configured correctly.
To do so, log on to the secondary server within the Shared Storage Environment as the Administrator account. Then perform the following:

1. For Windows 2000,
Windows 2003, and Windows XP, click Start | Programs | Administrative Tools |
Data Sources (ODBC)
For Windows NT
4.0, click Start | Settings | Control Panel | Data Sources
(ODBC)
2. Select the System
DSN tab
3. Click Add
4. In the Create New
Data Source window, select SQL Server, and click
Finish
5. A window will be
displayed: Create a New Data Source to SQL Server. For Name, enter
Test. Leave Description
blank. For Server, select the Backup Exec Media Server. Click
Next once this information is correctly entered (Figure 1)

6. Select With Windows
NT authentication using the network login ID and then click Next

7. Leave the defaults on
this screen, and click Next (Figure 3)

8. Leave the defaults on
this screen, and click Finish (Figure 4)

9. On the ODBC
Microsoft SQL Server Setup window that pops up, click Test Data
Source (Figure 5)

10. All tests should
return a success. If any errors do occur, reference the SQL Knowledge Base at
the Microsoft Web
