What steps to perform to configure and submit a cleaning job in Backup Exec

Solution

In order to submit cleaning jobs or scheduled cleaning jobs for auto loaders, it is vital to define a cleaning slot that contains the cleaning tape.

NOTE: This option is not available for stand-alone drives.

To define a cleaning slot within Backup Exec (BE) perform the following steps:

1. Open the Backup Exec User Interface (UI) and On the navigation bar, click Devices

2. Click Robotic Libraries, and then click the robotic library for which the cleaning is to be set up

3. Click Slots to display the library's slots in the right pane

4. Right-click the slot that contains the cleaning tape, and select Properties

5. Select the Cleaning slot check box, and then click OK

Make sure that the cleaning tape is located in the slot that you defined as the cleaning slot. After defining the cleaning slot, you can set up a cleaning job for the robotic library drive.

To set up a cleaning job, perform the following:

1. On the navigation bar, click Devices

2. Click Robotic Libraries, and then click the robotic library containing the drive

3. Select the drive

4. Under Drive Tasks in the task pane, click Clean

5. Click Run Now to submit the job or schedule it for a later time
