KNOWN ISSUE: Dell systems never appear in ''All Dell Computers with OpenManage...'' collection when using custom SNMP community string

Issue



In an environment where a custom SNMP community string is being used instead of "public", machines never appear in the "All Dell Computers with OpenManage Server Administrator installed" collection. This in turn prevents the Dell Monitor Pack from being activated on the Dell machines. This condition persists even if the custom community string is defined in the Monitor Agent configuration policy.


Environment



  • Monitor Solution 6.0.1337
  • Monitor Solution for Dell Servers 6.1.2046

A custom SNMP community string is being used in the environment other than "public"


Cause



Even when the custom community string has been defined in the Monitor Agent configuration policy, the Monitor Agent will continue to reference "public" regardless. This issue is a bug and has been submitted to development.

Solution



A hotfix has been created and is attached to this article that will update the Monitor Agent to allow a custom community string to be used other than "public". This hotfix will need to be either manually applied to each Dell machine with the Monitor Agent installed, or rolled out via a custom Software Delivery task.

When executed, this hotfix will perform the following tasks:

  1. Stop the "Altiris Monitor Agent" service
  2. Replace the appropriate file(s)
  3. Start the "Altiris Monitor Agent" service
