Problem
How to move Quota database and file blocking information in VERITAS StorageCentral (tm) SRM from one server to another server if the server name is different
Solution
The
QaQuotasV4.dat contains quota related information such as space
allocation objects, disk full errors, passive limit, etc. The
QAPolicyV5.mdb contains policy related information such as alarms and
actions. These two files are found in root of each volume, while file blocking
related information is stored in registry. Perform the following steps to move
Quota database and file blocking information from one server to another server
if the server name is different:
On the source StorageCentral server, perform the following:
1. Back up the quota database file found at the root of each drive for all builds of StorageCentral 5.x.
QaQuotasV4.dat
2. Back up the policy database file.
For StorageCentral 5.0
the file QAPolicyV5.mdb can be found at the root of each drive.
For StorageCentral 5.2
the file QAPolicyV5.mdb can be found in the SCSRMQuota folder that
is located at the root of each drive.
3. Back up the following registry key:
HKLM\Software\WQuinn\StorageCentral
SRM
On the destination StorageCentral server, perform the following:
1. Create the folders on the new, "destination server" that are represented by the Managed Objects within StorageCentral on the "source server". These folders should have the same name and path for which Quota and File Blocking policies were applied.
Example:
A "Users" home folder resides in the following location: \\SOURCE_SERVER\D:\Users.
In StorageCentral there is a Managed Object for D:\Users.
The destination server should have the same, exact, path, with the exception of the server name: \\DESTINATION_SERVER\D:\Users.
Special Note: The path is case sensitive.
2. Restore the QaQuotasV4.dat and QAPolicyV5.mdb files for each drive to the "destination server."
Special note: The SCSRMQuota folder for QAPolicyV5.mdb will need to be created for installations of StorageCentral 5.2.
3. Install StorageCentral Standard Edition on the "destination server."
4. Import the backed up registry key.
5. If Collector and Preferred machines are different for the destination server, then open StorageCentral Microsoft Management Console (MMC) and reconfigure those items.
6. Restart the server, open the StorageCentral console and verify that Quota and File Blocking information are displayed properly.
WARNING:
Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require
you to reinstall your operating system. VERITAS cannot guarantee that problems
resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry
Editor at your own risk.
