Issue

Unable to start the VERITAS Enterprise Administrator (tm) service

Error

The XML page cannot be displayed.

Solution

The VERITAS Enterprise Administrator relies on a type definitions database called objecttypes.xml.  If this file becomes corrupt, the VERITAS Enterprise Administrator service will be prevented from starting. To determine whether it is corrupt, double click the file to view the contents. A healthy objecttypes.xml will appear similar to that shown in Figure 1 below.

A corrupt file will not be viewable, and will display the following error:
The XML page cannot be displayed.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps on the server on which the VERITAS Volume Manager (tm) client is installed:

1.  Browse to C:\Program Files\VERITAS\VERITAS Object Bus\Bin
2.  Locate the file objecttypes.xml and rename it to objecttypes.old
3.  In the same directory, locate the file vipobjecttypes.xml
4.  Copy this file and paste it into the same directory
5.  Rename this file to objecttypes.xml

These steps should allow the VERITAS Enterprise Administrator service to be started successfully.
