How to manually change the Desktop and Laptop Option clients to use a different media server

Solution

There are two methods available to manually change the Desktop and Laptop Option (DLO) client's media server.

If the original media server still exists, perform the following :

1. Open the Desktop and Laptop Option (DLO) console.

2. Click on Setup Tab, Expand Storage Locations, click on the Storage Server and in the right pane Right-click Storage Location and select Properties

3. Under Summary, the Network User Data Folder is identified (Figure 1)

4. Open Windows Explorer and browse to the Network User Data folder that was identified in Step 3

5. Below the Network User Data folder, browse to the .dlo\.notify directory

6. Create a text file named newMediaServer<Client Machine Name> in the notify directory, e.g. newMediaServerClient1

7. Type the name of the new DLO media server on the first line of the file and save the file

8. Repeat these steps for each computer that will be using a new DLO media server

If the original media server no longer exists, the registry must be edited on each of the user's machines as follows:

1. Click Start | Run and open Regedit32.exe

2. If the setting has been modified previously**, browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Symantec\DLO\3.0\Client\DefaultMediaServer

Note: older version of DLO the key maybe HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\DLO\Client\DefaultMediaServer

3. If the setting has not been modified previously, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\DLO\3.0\Client\DefaultMediaServer

Note: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\DLO\Client\DefaultMediaServer

Note: The current user key will override the Local Machine Key settings.

4. Right-click on DefaultMediaServer and select Modify

5. Type the new DLO media server name in the Value datafield

6. Close the registry editor

7. Restart the desktop computer to move the client storage to the new DLO media server
