In the event of a primary failure, a takeover operation must be performed on the secondary. The takeover operation allows the secondary to become the primary and assume its role. Once the original primary is back online, the role will need to revert back to the original primary. The FastFailback (FFB) feature allows a user to quickly revert back to the original primary after a takeover operation on a secondary without the need for a full synchronization.

The FFB feature uses the data change map (DCM) of the data volumes for the new primary to keep track of the changed content and the new content. This patch also contains files for VERITAS Global Cluster Manager (tm) and VERITAS Cluster Server (tm) support for the VERITAS Volume Replicator FastFailback feature. These patches are required if FastFailback will be used in a VERITAS Cluster Server or Global Cluster Manager environment.

Important Note: VERITAS Volume Replicator 3.1 Service Pack 1 is required to be installed prior to installing this FastFailback patch. See the Related Documents section of this document for a link to Service Pack 1.
