Problem
General guidelines on recovering from disk failure in a VERITAS Volume Replicator Replicated Data Set
Solution
In general, the following cases can occur:
On the Primary:
Data Volume disk Failure:
On the Primary:
Data Volume disk Failure:
- Primary RVG will go to FAIL state.
To recover:
- Rectify the disk error.
- Reactivate the volume.
- Start the primary RVG.
SRL Volume Disk failure:
- RVG will go to passthru mode and Rlink will be detached.
To recover:
- Rectify the disk error.
- Reactivate the volume.
- Dissociate the SRL from the RVG.
- Associate it back.
- Use checkpoint restore, if backup and checkpoint available.
- Otherwise attach with autosync.
On the Secondary:
Data Volume disk failure:
- Secondary and primary RLINK fail flag is set.
To
recover:
- Rectify the disk error.
- Reactivate the volume.
- Use checkpoint restore, if backup and checkpoint available.
- Otherwise detach and attach with autosync.
SRL Volume Disk failure:
- Secondary RVG goes to FAIL state and passthru mode.
- Rlink secondary paused, secondary log error flags are set.
To Recover:
- Rectify the disk error.
- Reactivate the volume.
- Dissociate the SRL from the RVG.
- Associate it back.
- Start the RVG.
