Note: Wise Solutions Technical Support, with the assistance of Wise customers, has compiled information concerning Microsoft Windows Installer error messages. This article is provided for reference. Although specific solutions are outlined, there may be multiple causes for some of the Windows Installer errors, and the solutions discussed may not resolve the error in all circumstances.

The best way to handle this error is to manually add the Data Source data via the Registry Page.

First, you will need to remove the ODBC information on the ODBC page of the installation expert. Then if you have ODBC on your machine, locate the ODBC registry key using a tool such as regedit. Go to the registry section of the Installation Expert and import the .reg file. If you do not have ODBC on your machine, you will need to manually add the registry keys to this page.

You may also encounter this error with a SQL data source, and may have to modify the registry manually to fix the problem.

The full error messages for 4-digit Windows Installer error codes can be found in the Windows Installer SDK. More information may also be available at Microsoft's Web site.
