The error "The server process could not be started because the configured identity is incorrect. Check the username and password" is generated when trying to launch the VERITAS StorageCentral (tm) and VERITAS Storage Exec (tm) consoles.

"Server process could not be started because the configured identity is incorrect. Check the username and password"

Solution



The error, as displayed below in Figure 1, can occur if an incorrect username and/or password have been assigned to the WQRptSvr DCOM component of StorageCentral 5.2 and earlier or the SERptSvr DCOM component of Storage Exec 5.3 and later.

To resolve this issues,  follow the steps below:
Click Start Run, input dcomcnfg in the Open: box and click OK as in Figure 2 below

For Windows 2003 and Windows XP
Component Services will open as seen below in Figure 3. Expand Component ServicesComputersMy ComputerDCOM Config

1. Under DCOM Config locate WQRptSvr for StorageCentral 5.2 and earlier or SERptSvr for Storage Exec 5.3 and later

2. Right click WQRptSvr or SERptSvr and select Properties as seen below in Figure 4

3. As seen below in Figure 5, select the Identity tab, place the bullet in This user: (if not already), input the correct user name and password. If the correct username already appears, erase what is currently displayed and use the Browse: button to reselect the correct user,  and then input the correct password in the Password and Confirm password fields. Finally click Apply and OK

For Windows 2000
Distributed COM Configuration Properties will open.
1. On the Applications tab, select WQRptSvr or SERptSvr and click the Properties button as seen below in Figure 6

2. As seen below in Figure 7, select the Identity tab, place the bullet in This user: (if not already), input the correct user name and password. If the correct username already appears, erase what is currently displayed and use the Browse: button to reselect the correct user,  and then input the correct password in the Password and Confirm password fields. Finally click Apply and OK

The problem should no longer occur when opening the StorageCentral or Storage Exec console.
