Problem
HotFix 9 is the latest hotfix for VERITAS Storage Replicator (tm) 2.1 SP3
Error
VERITAS Storage Replicator (tm) 2.1 Service Pack 3 with Hot fix 9 full install.
Solution
Hotfix 9 is
designed to resolve the under-utilization of bandwidth throttling settings, the
failure to save Read Only files stored in a Roaming Profile under Windows, and a
conflict with the Dell implemented NobleNet service. It also increases the
work queue counter and the comm time to live (TTL).
During light
replication activity, the replication engine would only use a fraction of
the available bandwidth (but only when bandwidth throttling was enabled for a
pair). If there were also periods of heavy replication activity, this
would lead to journal buildup on the source. The replication engine now uses as
much bandwidth as possible within the constraints of the available bandwidth and
the throttle setting.
During heavy
replication activity with limited bandwidth, if more than 65535 work items were
queued, an internal counter would wrap and some journals would never be
sent to the target unless the job was restarted. The counter now can handle
4294967295 items.
On rare
occasions, a sync only job would fail to stop correctly on the target
though the job was marked as completed. In this case, the replica would be
incomplete but the job state (and log) showed no error. The only indication was
an alert on the target server that said a job failed to stop and was therefore
canceled. The problem is fixed with Hot fix 9 installed and running as either a
source or a target. However, if it is only running as a source (e.g. the target
is Hotfix 8 or below), then the following lines need to be added to
the rxservice.ini file in the %Windir% directory:
[Communications]
IdleSCKeepTime=5
This parameter
specifies the number of EXTRA seconds that the RxService should keep a server
comm alive after the CS Groomer thread has detected that the server comm is
idle. The default value is 0 - no extra delay. Idle server comms are normally
groomed every two minutes. But if a grooming sweep detects an idle server comm
just after a job has completed, it will close the socket to the target and cause
an old target to immediately flush whatever it was doing for the jobs using that
socket.
Another issue
with roaming profiles has been fixed. Sometimes files in the profile that are
marked as read-only are modified when the profile is saved. In this case, Hotfix
8 and prior releases would cause the profile to fail to save correctly and the
user would see an Access Denied error. This has been fixed in Hotfix 9.
When certain
versions of the Adaptec CI/O Array Manager that use the NobleNet Portmapper are
installed on a system, Storage Replicator will not install and run correctly.
This is because the Array Manager does not install all the NobleNet files
necessary for Storage Replicator to run. Introduced in Hotfix 9, the
Storage Replicator installer handles this case by upgrading the Array Manager
NobleNet files to the version required by Storage Replicator.
This binary is
a self-extracting zip file of the CD. It paths from root to VSRSP3HF9. Download
the attached binary file and extract to a disk or a network share for use in
installing version 2.1 SP3 Hotfix 9 of VERITAS Storage Replicator. If this will
be an upgrade from a previous version, please see the related TechNote regarding
the upgrade install under the Related Documents section below or run the
setup.exe in the VSRSP3HF9\vsr\service pack\ directory.
For a complete
install, please run VSRSP3HF9\vsr\install\setup.exe after extracting the
download.
There is more
information available in the Readme.txt file located in the Storage
Replicator 2.1 SP3 \vsr\install directory.
You will be
required to reboot after completion of this installation.
This version is
compatible with Windows 2003 server. It is recommended to upgrade to VERITAS
Storage Replicator 3.0 when available for full functionality on the Windows 2003
platform.
Installation of
the job agent on Windows 2003 Cluster is covered in the related TechNote 262736.
