Installation of VERITAS StorageCentral (tm) fails due to InstallScript error. DCOM reports multiple copies of InstallShield InstallDriver.

Error



The InstallScript engine is missing from this machine, if available, run isscript.msi or contact your support personnel for further assistance

Solution



The installation of StorageCentral may fail if the InstallShield Scripting Engine is incorrectly configured within DCOM.

To see if this is the case, click on Start > Run type dcomcnfg and hit return.

The Distributed COM Configuration Properties window should appear.  Scroll down through the list of DCOM servers, if required, until you find the InstallShield InstallDriver.  If the DCOM registration has become corrupted, you will see two copies of the InstallShield InstallDriver listed here (Figure 1).

To proceed with the installation of StorageCentral, you should begin by following the procedure as outlined in the Microsoft article.  This will remove the duplicated DCOM server entry.

Once you have completed the steps in the Microsoft article, open the Distributed COM Configuration Properties Window again and verify that only one InstallShield InstallDriver appears in the list.  If there are still multiple copies of the InstallShield InstallDriver, you will need to refer back to the Microsoft article.

If only one copy of InstallShield InstallDriver appears, open a command prompt by clicking Start > Run,  typing cmd,  and hitting Return.

From the command line, navigate to <system drive>:\program files\common files\installshield\driver\<version number>\intel 32 (Example 1)

From this directory, type idriver.exe /regserver and hit return.

Try running the StorageCentral installation again, and you should no longer receive the error message.
