KNOWN ISSUE: "Access Denied" error when selecting a computer

Technical Solution


After adding a custom Security Role, adding specific users, and enabling all or appropriate privileges, access to the "Click to select" item yields the following message:


  • Carbon Copy Solution 6.2.x
  • Notification Server 6.0.6074 (SP3 +R5 or later)


Permissions for a custom Security Role are not being properly propagated to the "Installed Carbon Copy Agents" report. This particular report is responsible for the picker properly displaying the resource definition.

*NOTE default permissons on default user groups such as the Altiris Level 1 and Level 2 workers my have been changed causing the same issue for users in these groups.


A workaround to the particular issue is to add the custom Security Role to the "Computers" report permissions and apply necessary permissions to a hidden Carbon Copy report item:

1.  Access Reports > Reports > Notification Server Infrastructure > Server > Resource Reports

2.  Right-click the "Computers" report item (shown below), select Properties, and then the Security tab

3.  Add the custom Security Role to this item and provide "Read", "Run Reports" and "Save Reports" permissions

4.  Enter the following URL directly from the Notification Server:
