Issue

Advanced Open File Option backups fail because of an I/O device error.

Error

AOFO: Snapshot error (0x45d): The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

Solution

Corrupt data, bad blocks/sectors, and excessive fragmentation on a hard disk can cause an Advanced Open File Option (AOFO) backup to fail. The I/O device error is only one of many errors that can occur because of this. To resolve the issue, run the Windows Error Checking Utility, a disk defragmentation, and review the Windows Event Viewer Logs on the machine being backed up for errors around the time of the job failure.
