How to modify the setup configuration file (Setup.ini) of the Desktop and Laptop (DLO) Agent to connect to a specific Backup Exec for Windows Servers Media Server

Solution

In case of multiple DLO servers on the network, the DLO Agent install process can be configured to connect to a specific DLO server.  This will eliminate the need to manually configure DLO server settings on each desktop after installation.

For Example:

There are 2 DLO servers on the network and only one DLO Agent install share to allow agent installation on client systems.
After modifying setup configuration file on this agent install share, all clients will get installed using the settings set in this configuration file.

To modify the DLO Agent setup configuration file, do the following:

1. Browse to DLO Agent share (Figure 1) or go to the DLO folder located on the Media Server "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Agents\DLO"

Figure 1

2. Edit the setup.ini file to specify the default media server in DEFAULTMEDIASERVER="servername"  section   (Figure 2)

Figure 2

3. Save the file

Now, when the DLO setup is run from this share, the clients will get connected to the DLO server specified in the file.

After DLO Agent is installed confirm the same from the following registry. It should show the DLO server name specified in the setup.ini file.

Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.

1. Open Regedt32.exe from Start | Run

2. Depending on the version of DLO used Browse to one of the following Registry keys on the client:
     10 D and older :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\DLO\Client\DefaultMediaServer
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\DLO\Client\DefaultMediaServer

11 D and above :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Symantec\DLO\Client\DefaultMediaServer
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\DLO\Client\DefaultMediaServer

Check the DefaultMediaServer value.
