Device Mapping Files Update
The downloadable containers, Mappings_5.tar or Mappings_5.zip contain the following two files:
Readme.txt (this file)
device_mappings.txt
The device_mappings.txt file is used by the NetBackup "Device Configuration Wizard" to automatically configure new devices.
*************************** IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER *************
*************************** PLEASE READ: *******************
The presence of a device in the file "device_ mappings.txt" does not indicate, expressed or implied, support of the device on the target NetBackup/Media Manager platform.
Refer to the Support Web page, <www.veritas.com> , compatibility lists for a complete list of supported devices for NetBackup by platform and NetBackup release.
These files are for NetBackup 5 only and cannot be read by other NetBackup releases.
The device_mappings.txt file contains a Revision number in the file header. Before loading the downloaded bundle on your
system, verify the new mappings file is replacing a mapping file with a lower Revision number.
*********************************************
Installation Instructions:
1. Download and extract the new mappings file
Create a temporary directory or folder.
Obtain, via ftp, the Mappings_5.[ zip | tar ] file to the temporary directory/folder.
Unzip Mappings_5.zip or /bin/tar xvf Mappings_5.tar.
This will create two files in the temporary location:
Readme.txt (this file)
device_mappings.txt
2. Verify existing mappings file revision:
Windows:
Use Windows Explorer to locate the mappings files in <Temp Folder> and <Veritas Install Path>\NetBackup\share.
Use Notepad or Wordpad to view the mappings files.
UNIX:
head -5 <temp_dir>/external_*_mappings.txt
head -5 /usr/openv/share/external_*_mappings.txt
Verify the new mappings files have a higher revision number than the current mappings file.
3. Save the current file:
Always save the current file so it can be recovered if needed. This example uses the date to mark the saved file.
Windows NetBackup servers:
copy <Veritas Install Path>\NetBackup\share\device_mappings.txt
<Veritas Install Path>\NetBackup\share\device_mappings.<date>
where <Veritas Install Path> defaults to C:\Program Files\Veritas
UNIX NetBackup servers:
cp <Veritas Install Path>/share/device_mappings.txt
<Veritas Install Path>/share/device_mappings.<date>
where <Veritas Install Path> defaults to /usr/openv.
4. Copy the new mappings file to install location:
Windows NetBackup servers:
copy <Temp Folder>\device_mappings.txt
<Veritas Install Path>\NetBackup\share\device_mappings.txt
UNIX NetBackup servers:
cp <temp_dir>/device_mappings.txt
<Veritas Install Path>/share/device_mappings.txt
5. Run the "Device Configuration Wizard"
Uninstall Instructions:
Windows NetBackup servers:
copy <Veritas Install Path>\NetBackup\share\device_mappings.<date>
<Veritas Install Path>\NetBackup\share\device_mappings.txt
where <Veritas Install Path> defaults to C:\Program Files\Veritas.
UNIX NetBackup servers:
cp <Veritas Install Path>/share/device_mappings.<date>
<Veritas Install Path>/share/device_mappings.txt
where <Veritas Install Path> defaults to /usr/openv.
