Installation appears to hang when installing VERITAS Storage Foundation (tm) 4.1 for Windows or VERITAS Storage Foundation (tm) HA 4.1 for Windows

Solution

VERITAS Storage Foundation for Windows and VERITAS Storage Foundation HA for Windows may appear to hang during installation. This can occur when installation is done through the silent command line installation method, Remote Desktop, or when push installing the products to a remote system through the VERITAS Product Installer (VPI).

While the installation may appear to be hung or stalled, the install process is actually waiting on a response to a prompt from the operating system. When using the silent command installation method, using Remote Desktop, or when pushing to remote systems, the prompt on the remote system may not be visible to respond, thus making the installation sequence appear to be hung.

The prompt is due to the installation installing on remote systems running Windows Server 2003. The Windows Driver Signing Options must be set to ignore warning messages regarding software authentication. This must be done for all remote nodes where the installation takes place. If this is not done, then each remote installation will stop at the driver signing message that requires manual confirmation and will not be able to proceed.

The Driver Signing Options window is available in the Windows System Properties. To set the Driver Signing Options:

1. Access the System Properties window from the Windows Control Panel.
2. Select the Hardware tab and click Driver Signing.
3. Select Ignore and click OK to close the window.

You may change the Driver Signing Options to the original settings after the product installation is complete.

Note: If there is a large number of installations to be done with the automated push install process, the system administrator should add the VERITAS authentication certificate to the publisher store in the Active Directory (AD). Additionally, Symantec Enterprise Technical Support can provide scripts that can modify this setting for a system temporarily for installation to proceed and then change it back to the original setting. Please contact Symantec Enterprise Technical Support directly for information on how to obtain these scripts
