How to move NetBackup log files to a mount point on a Windows 2000 and 2003 server

Solution

If the VERITAS NetBackup (tm) administrator would like to move NetBackup log files for a master server, media server, or clients in which the administrator is not troubleshooting database extensions, refer to TechNote 239186 (link in the Related Documents section of this TechNote).
If the NetBackup administrator needs to troubleshoot the following database extensions: SQL, Oracle, SAP, DB2, or Sybase, and the current log location does not have sufficient drive space, the administrator must perform one of the following:
a. Reinstall NetBackup on a drive with adequate drive space
b. Move the \netbackup\logs directory to a mount point

To move the \netbackup\logs directory to a mount point, the user must first ensure that the logs directory is empty. The system must also have unpartitioned drive space available to create a mount point.

1. Move the contents of the \netbackup\logs directory to a temporary location (in this example the logs were moved to a directory \netbackup\temp)

2. Open Computer Management, go to Disk Management, and select the unpartitioned disk space. Right-click and create a new volume.

3. Follow the New Volume Wizard, selecting the amount of disk space for the new volume

4. Select "Mount into the following empty NTFS folder" instead of selecting a drive letter. Browse for the \Netbackup\logs directory (ensure that the directory is empty), select the \netbackup\logs directory.

5. Copy the logs back from the temp directory to the new \netbackup\logs directory

6. All logging will now occur in the default \netbackup\logs directory with an available drive space of 100MB, in the example above.
