After upgrading to Software Virtualization Solution 2.1.2088 on Notification Server the Tasks and Wizard are inaccessible

Issue



After upgrading the Software Virtualization Solution on the Notification Server, I am unable to access any of the Software Virtualization Solution tasks or the wizard, and the following error appears in the log when trying to view the tasks:

Unhandled exception. Type=System.Web.HttpException Msg=File or assembly name Altiris.SV, or one of its dependencies, was not found. StackTrace= at System.Web.UI.TemplateParser.GetParserCacheItemInternal(Boolean fCreateIfNotFound) at System.Web.UI.TemplateParser.GetParserCacheItemWithNewConfigPath() at System.Web.UI.TemplateParser.GetParserCacheItem() at System.Web.UI.TemplateControlParser.CompileAndGetParserCacheItem(String virtualPath, String inputFile, HttpContext context) at System.Web.UI.TemplateControlParser.GetCompiledInstance(String virtualPath, String inputFile, HttpContext context) at System.Web.UI.PageParser.GetCompiledPageInstanceInternal(String virtualPath, String inputFile, HttpContext context) at System.Web.UI.PageHandlerFactory.GetHandler(HttpContext context, String requestType, String url, String path) at System.Web.HttpApplication.MapHttpHandler(HttpContext context, String requestType, String path, String pathTranslated, Boolean useAppConfig) at System.Web.MapHandlerExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication+IExecutionStep.Execute() at System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) Inner exception. Or getting the following error when trying to launch the wizard or edit exiting packages on NS:

The following error occurred on the page "svpackageui.aspx" unknown or unspecified error.

Cause



Even though there were no apparent errors, the upgrade process did not complete successfully.


Solution



While logged physically into the Notification Server (not through Remote Desktop Connection), go into Add or Remove Programs and uninstall: 

  1. Altiris SVS Task Server Plugin Language Pack
  2. Altiris SVS Task
  3. Altiris Software Virtualization Solution

Then go to the Program Files\Altiris\Setup Files\Software Virtualization Solution and run:

  1. Software_Virtualization_Solution.msi
  2. Altiris_SVSTask_6_0.msi
  3. Altiris_SVSTaskLP_6_0.msi
  4. Reaply license
