HP workstations fail to boot into Linux automation environment

Issue



Some HP workstations fail to load the Linux automation environment.


Environment



Deployment Solution 6.8.206 and above

The following HP models are affected:

  • DC5700
  • DC5800
  • DC5850
  • DC7700
  • DC7800
  • DX7300
  • RP5700

Cause



The firmware on the motherboard caused problems with the compiled kernel.


Solution



  1. Create a Linux automation PXE image.
  2. Browse to Program Files\Altiris\eXpress\Deployment Server\PXE\Images\MenuOptionXXX\X86PC where XXX corresponds to the image created in step 1.
  3. Open pxelinux.cfg, and add "pci=conf1" (without the quotation marks) somewhere in the APPEND line.
  4. Save changes to pxelinux.cfg.
