Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 9.0.1 stops responding with VERITAS Replication Exec (tm) 3.1 on Windows Server 2003 when Internet Email Auto-Protect is enabled

Solution

If Replication Exec and Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition  9.0.1 are installed on the same server, virus scans will fail to run on the system.

This problem is fixed in Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition version 9.0.4. For more information on this issue and how to obtain the latest version of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition, see the following Symantec document:

There are also two workarounds that will resolve the conflict between NAV9 and Replication Exec

1. Uninstall NAV 9 and reinstall it using the client version with a custom install. Exclude the email plug-in from being loaded (included by default). According to Symantec,  the risk is low as the filter only catches POP3 mail sent from its own simple mail transfer protocol (SMTP) server in an effort to avoid spoofing and virus infection. It loads a proxy server and has caused other issues unrelated to this one. Scanning the attachments at the Exchange server should accomplish the same result. This is a client side setting and a custom install is necessary to exclude it.

2. Uninstall NAV 9 and reinstall using the server version. This will also eliminate the proxy server conflict and email plug-in,  but it will require more management than a client install.
