Backup Exec SMTP Mail Notifications are not sent when McAfee or other SMTP port/spam blocking software is installed on the SMTP or Backup Exec server

Solution

Once Backup Exec (tm) has been properly configured for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) notifications, the SMTP notifications may still not work if McAfee 8.0  or other SMTP Port or spam blocking software is installed on the SMTP or Backup Exec server.

NOTE: McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise 8.0.0 blocks port 25 by default to prevent mass mailing worms from sending spam-mail. To be able to send SMTP notifications using Backup Exec, port 25 should be opened for the beserver.exe.

1. Open Virus Scan Console of McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise 8.0.0  (Figure 1)

2. Right-click on Access Protection and select Properties (Figure 2)

3. Click Edit on the properties for Prevent Mass mailing worms from sending mail (Figure 2)

4. Click Add and add the beserver.exe to the list of existing allowed executables (Figure 3)

5.  Once the changes have been made, the SMTP mail notification should work. If this does not resolve the issue, refer to the Related Documents below to resolve the issue.
