In Backup Exec 9.x and prior versions, if a tape was in a Robotic Library's Tape Drive and the device was active, Inventory, Lock, Unlock, Label, and Erase jobs submitted would show in a "Ready" state in the Job Monitor until the tape was ejected from the drive and the drive was idle.  Once the drive was available, Inventory, Lock, Unlock, Label, & Erase Jobs could be run, prior to responding OK to the prompt to "Insert Over-writeable Media" and a job would continue.

Because of changes that have been made to the Backup Exec 10.x and later Version software code, Inventory, Lock, Unlock, Label, & Erase jobs submitted while a job is prompting for media will hang indefinitely in a "Ready; No Idle Devices are available" state in the Job Monitor until the backup job is canceled or is able to resume/complete. The display on the tape hardware will show that the device is idle and ready, even though Backup Exec believes it not to be.

For a loader without a mail slot/bar code reader, the work-around to get a job to resume that requires additional media is as follows:
 

1. Right click on the slot(s).

2. Select Import.

3. Eject the magazine.

4. Replace the tapes.

5. Right click on the slots and select Scan.

Please Note:  The work-around listed above may not function if the auto loader or robotic library door remains in a lock down state and will not open after the import command is issued.

If a library has a mail slot, the import/export commands can be issued and an initialize can be run on the loader's slots, after the media has been replaced.  It is not possible to run a label or erase job if a backup job is prompting for media.
