Altiris Agent fails to push, unable to create Altiris Agent object to set server on

Issue



When pushing the Altiris Agent from the Notification Server console, the agent fails to install properly. The AexSwdInstSvc.log from the client computer (located in the %windir% directory) shows the following sequence of events:

2005-09-14 15:01:39: Remote Installation Service build (6,0,0,3397), Notification Server build (6,0,5287)
2005-09-14 15:01:39: Attempting to start as service.
2005-09-14 15:01:39: Started as service.
2005-09-14 15:01:39: Seeing if command line parameters specified.
2005-09-14 15:01:39: Sending 'Checking Prerequisites: Success' message to 'http://<SERVER NAME>/Altiris/'.
2005-09-14 15:01:39: Sending progress update to the NS....
2005-09-14 15:01:39: Requirements check:

Notification Server 6.0

Cause



In most circumstances, this issue is attributed to an InstallShield version conflict on the client computer receiving the Altiris Agent push.


Solution



To fix the problem, the computer will need to have the conflicting version of InstallShield removed. Deleting %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional, or moving this directory to a different location, will correct the issue. Re-initiating the Altiris Push will cause the necessary InstallShield files to be regenerated on the client computer.
