Does Workspace Streaming support virtualizing Internet Explorer?
Solution
Workspace Virtualization provides support for virtualizing specific versions of Internet Explorer (IE). Due to the tight itegration of Internet Explorer with the Windows operating system, a special packaging process is required. This article details the supported versions and supported packaging mechanisms for Internet Explorer in Workspace Virtualization.
Supported Workspace Virtualization versions
6.1 and later
Supported IE versions by operating system
Windows XP
IE 6 virtualized with IE 6 or IE 8 installed to the base.
IE 8 virtualized with IE 6 or IE 8 installed to the base.
Note: IE 8 includes an IE 7 compatibility mode ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956197 ). For IE 7 support, include IE 8 virtualized or in the base.
Windows 7
IE8 virtualized with IE8 installed in the base or IE8 uninstalled.
IE6 virtualized with IE8 installed in the base or IE8 uninstalled.
Supported packaging mechanisms
Supported IE layers can be created by Symantec Professional Services. Contact your Endpoint Virtualization sales representative for more information.
Symantec also provides a tool, called the Layer Definition Tool, that lets you create IE layers using an automated process. Support is provided for unmodified IE layers created using this tool. For details see the following:
