Problem
PXE will not bind to port 4011 on a Windows 2008 server that is running the Microsoft DHCP server service
Steps to reproduce:
- Install Windows 2008 Server and install the DHCP server service.
- Install Deployment Solution 6.9 SP1.
- PXE boot a client. PXE will not work.
Error
PXE-E55: proxyDHCP service did not reply to request on port 4011.
The client issued a proxyDHCP request to the DHCP server on port 4011 but did not receive a reply.
Environment
Windows 2008 Server with DHCP server service installed and running Deployment Solution 6.9 build 355 or Deployment Solution 7.1
Cause
Under investigation.
Solution
Symantec is investigating this issue and will update this article when there is more information.
To work around this issue, change the PXE configuration from the default "auto-detect Microsoft DHCP" to "3rd party DHCP" and configure DHCP option 60 to "PXEClient".
Please note:
in DS 7.1 there is no "3rd party DHCP" option available as yet. However this option will be available with DS 7.1 sp2, where the PXE services have been improved with additional functionalities.
Also this issue does not occur on Windows Server 2008 R2.
