Issue

When PXE is installed on a Windows Server 2008 which has a DHCP server installed on it, the PXE Configuration Utility (6.9)  will not properly configure the DHCP Server to set the 060 option.

Environment

Windows Server 2008 with DHCP installed

Deployment server 6.9 (ALL service packs)

Deployment server 7.1 (All builds)

Cause

Unknown.

Solution

DS 6.9:

To get the DHCP Server on Windows Server 2008 to set correctly, the PXE Configuration Utility will have to be set to 3rd party DHCP and Option 060 will have to be configured manually in order to get the PXE Server to distribute boot images to requests that come in to the PXE Server. Step by step details for doing this can be found at http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO1392

DS 7.1:

NETSH

NETHSH>DHCP server \nameofserver

add optiondef 60 PXEClient String 0 comment=PXEsupport

set optionvalue 60 STRING PXEClient

show optionvalue all

exit

Restart the PXE services.  If the above netsh commands do not resolve the issue please call support and request backline support.
