KNOWN ISSUE: Client machines lose connectivity after installing the Altiris Agent

Issue



Client machines lose network connectivity after installing the Altiris Agent.

The Agent logs show many of the following messages consecutivly

  <![CDATA[CWin32CTServerDirectConnection::Connect(): Tickle connection to server <server name>:50124]]></event>

Running "netstat -an" on the client machines shows 5-200+ connections to the server ip address on port 50124.


Environment



Task Server 7.0 sp1 build 4044


Cause



This is caused by multiple agents connecting to task server with the same GUID.  This most commonly happens on machines that have been cloned or imaged.


Solution



Task Server 7.0.4248 in SMP 7.0 SP2 has addressed this issue.

To workaround this problem you will need to get rid of the duplicate GUIDs in the database.  See KB 3848 for details
