A backup job fails with the error "Error loading machine specific Intelligent Disaster Recovery information. Error: 1392 The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."

Error

Error loading machine specific Intelligent Disaster Recovery information. Error: 1392 The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable

Error : 0x570 - The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

Cause

This "1392" error occurs when the Intelligent Disaster Recovery (IDR) Preparation Wizard has not yet been used to create the IDR diskettes for the server.

Solution

To correct this issue perform the following steps:

1. On the media server, browse to the directory where Backup Exec (tm) is installed (by default, C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\IDR\Data and for Backup Exec for Windows Servers 11x or later, the default path is C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\IDR\DATA)

2. In the Data folder, look for any disaster recovery (.DR) files that are present

3. Either rename any .DR files that do not have a server name in front of the extension, and the DR file for the server that is reporting error 1392 in the log file, to xxxx.old. Or move the .DR file to another location.

Once the .DR file for that server has been renamed or moved, the backup job log should not report this error for the server.
