B. Supported Platforms and Peripherals

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
B.1 Operating System and Locale Support
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1. This NetBackup 4.5 Japanese MP9 package version provides no additional
platform support information beyond that provided by the NetBackup 4.5 MP9
release in English.

Please refer to the "Supported Platforms and Peripherals - Server and Client
Platform Support" section of "VERITAS NetBackup 4.5 Release Notes for Unix and
Windows". This provides references to the supported server and client Platform
information. You should also consult the NetBackup Compatibility Guides on the
VERITAS support web page (http://support.veritas.com ) for the most recent
additions or changes since "VERITAS NetBackup 4.5 Release Notes for Unix and
Windows" was published.

2. The localized graphical and the localized command line user interfaces of
this release are intended for the Japanese locale on a NetBackup Server or
client, for the following platforms and encodings:

Solaris (SPARC) 7, 8 and 9 - (ja, ja_JP.eucJP)
HP-UX 11.0 and 11.11 - (ja_JP.SJIS)
Windows NT 4.0, 2000, 2003 and XP - Japanese

Other Japanese locales including PCK and UTF-8 are not supported by the
localized user interfaces of this release.

3. In order for the localized user interfaces to be displayed correctly,
the locale has to be set at boot time so that the NetBackup daemons, such as
bpcd and bpbkar, will pick up the correct locale. These daemons are started
when the machine is booted.

Solaris:
a. Edit the file "/etc/default/init" with the following information:
LANG=ja
b. Reboot the system.

HP-UX:
a. Use geocustoms to set the system locale setting:
b. From a terminal window start geocustoms(1M) by typing 'geocustoms'
c. The language of the user interface for geocustoms can be selected.
d. Set the Default System Language to "Japanese".
e. Set the Language Variant to "Japanese SJIS" then select Next
f. Select Finish to confirm the language setting.
g. Reboot the system.

C. Installation

The following subsections describe the installation procedures for the UNIX and
Windows platforms.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
C.1 UNIX
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The following procedure describes how to install the NetBackup 4.5 Japanese MP9
package on a UNIX platform.

1. You must first install or upgrade the English version of NetBackup to 4.5
MP6.

The installation or upgrade instructions for this release of NetBackup are
found in the Installation Guide: for DataCenter see "NetBackup DataCenter
Installation Guide for UNIX" and for BusinesServer see "NetBackup BusinesServer
Getting Started Guide for UNIX."

2. After the English version of NetBackup 4.5 MP6 has been installed, you can
install or upgrade additional NetBackup products. Installation instructions for
these products can be found in the product's System Administrator's Guide.

Software for the following additional NetBackup products are on separate
NetBackup 4.5 MP6 CDs:
NetBackup 4.5 MP6 Database Agents and Options
NetBackup 4.5 MP6 Encryption 40-bit
NetBackup 4.5 MP6 Encryption 56-bit

If you already have the English version of the database agents and options
installed or upgraded, then move on to step 3.

3. Install the English version of the NetBackup 4.5 MP9 patch. This is
available either from the supplied installation media or from the VERITAS
Technical Support website.

4. The NetBackup 4.5 Japanese MP9 Language Pack can be either downloaded from
the VERITAS support website or can be on CD-ROM.

Download:
a. The pack is located on the VERITAS customer support website:
http://support.veritas.com
On the website, choose NetBackup Products, choose NetBackup DataCenter
or BusinesServer, then select the Downloads tab. For Product Version
choose 4.5 (MP9), for Language choose Japanese and then press Go.
Look for the following patch: JPN_NB_45_9_M_XXXXX.tar
b. Download the NetBackup Japanese MP9 Language Pack to the working
directory.
c. cd to the working directory and uncompress untar the download.
tar xvf JPN_NB_45_9_M_XXXXX.tar

CD-ROM:
You may need to mount the CD-ROM. See the section on Mounting CD-ROMs in the
"NetBackup DataCenter Installation Guide For UNIX" or in the "NetBackup
BusinesServer Getting Started Guide for UNIX."

5. Install the NetBackup 4.5 Japanese MP9 software. Enter the following and press Return.
./install
A message appears that asks you if you want to continue. Answer Y.

6. After you complete the Japanese language pack installation, the NetBackup
daemons must be stopped and then started so the Japanese version of the
NetBackup Administration Console displays.

a. To verify whether any NetBackup daemons are running, execute:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpps -a
b. To stop the NetBackup and Media Manager daemons, execute:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/goodies/netbackup stop
c. To start the NetBackup and Media Manager daemons, execute:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/goodies/netbackup start

The installation is now complete, unless you have NetBackup Advanced
Reporter installed. If you do, complete the next step:

d. When the daemons were stopped in Step a, the NetBackup Advanced Reporter
daemon was also stopped (if you had previously installed this optional
product). To start the NetBackup Advanced Reporter daemons:
On Solaris systems, execute: /etc/init.d/nbar start
On HP-UX systems, execute: /sbin/init.d/nbar start

7. In order to be able to view the localized manpages, you must append the
appropriate path listed below BEFORE the NetBackup English manpage path in the
MANPATH system variable. The English manpage path is: /usr/openv/man

For Japanese on Solaris, the manpage path is:
/usr/openv/man/ja/share/man

For Japanese on HP-UX, the manpage path is:
/usr/openv/man/ja

NOTE: If you need to view the manpages in English, you will need to ensure
that the MANPATH has the English manpage path listed before the Japanese
manpage path noted above.

HP-UX
To display Japanese fonts on HP-UX, you need to follow this procedure.

1. Install the following patches on HP-UX for TrueType support:
HP-UX 11.00
PHSS_31178 - s700_800 11.00 X Font Server Patch
PHSS_30260 - s700_800 11.00 X/Motif 32bit Runtime Periodic Patch
or
PHSS_29369 - s700_800 11.00 X/Motif 64bit Runtime Periodic Patch

HP-UX 11.11
PHSS_31179 - s700_800 11.11 X Font Server Patch
PHSS_30787 - s700_800 11.11 X/Motif Runtime Patch

2. HP has tested the Ricoh typefaces "TrueTypeWorld ValueFont D2" The
typefaces are a separately purchasable product. For product information, go to
http://www.ricoh.co.jp/font/ .

Install the purchased Ricoh product using the procedure described in HP-UX
manual "Japanese Environment User's Guide" (part number: B3782-90873). See
Chapter 4, Configuration of Japanese Fonts, Installation and Configuration
for TrueType optional fonts. (This manual is available in Japanese from
http://docs.hp.com/ja/ .)

3. Add the Ricoh installation location to the JAVA_FONTS variable. The default
is: JAVA_FONTS=/usr/lib/X11/fonts/ttfjpn.st/typefaces

4. Replace the Japanese font property file in $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib for NetBackup.
By default, $JAVA_HOME is /usr/openv/java. With proper (root) privileges, copy
font.properties.ja.Ricoh to font.properties.ja as follows:
su
cd $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/
cp font.properties.ja.Ricoh font.properties.ja

Set LANG to the Japanese locale ja_JP.SJIS in your runtime environment, or
simply use CDE locale login.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
C.3 Uninstalling NetBackup from Windows Systems
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If you only want to uninstall Japanese MP9, please follow steps 2 through 5
below.

1. Close all NetBackup Windows.
Make sure the NetBackup server has no active backups, restores, duplications,
etc., running. If there are NetBackup activities in process, the Maintenance
Pack will not install if the file to update is in use.

If database clients, such as Oracle, is being used, ensure that the database
services are stopped. Database services can be stopped via the Control Panel
-> Services tool. Repeat for all databases services that are currently
running. These services must be restarted once the patch is successfully
installed.

2. Go to <NetBackup installation directory>\Patch\ and run
Pack_Uninstaller.exe.

3. Select the appropriate NB_JPN_45_9_M pack to be uninstalled.

4. Click on Uninstall.

5. You may review the trace file to see what files were replaced:
<NetBackup installation directory>\Patch\Pack_Uninstall.log

If you also want to uninstall English MP9, repeat steps 2 through 5 selecting
NB_45_9_M.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
D. Known Problems and Limitations
The following list of items explains important aspects of NetBackup operations
that may not be documented elsewhere.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
D.1 General
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. The format that must be used for date and time values in NetBackup commands
varies according to the locale setting. If you are uncertain of the NetBackup
command requirements for your locale, enter the command with the -help option
and check the usage.
For example, the following is part of the bprestore usage statement output on
the 'C' locale:
[-s mm/dd/yyyy [HH:MM:SS]] [-e mm/dd/yyyy [HH:MM:SS]] [-w [hh:mm:ss]]
The example below is part of the bprestore usage statement output on the
'ja_JP.eucJP' locale:
[-s dd/mm/yyyy [HH:MM:SS]] [-e dd/mm/yyyy [HH:MM:SS]] [-w [hh:mm:ss]]
Note the difference in the formats for the month, day, and year. For more
information on locale, see the locale(1) man page for your system.
2. All optional debug logs are written in English. The exception to this
occurs when the debug log contains information passed from the OS. In this
case, Japanese text from strerror (for example) will be displayed in the log.
3. Some menu interfaces (bp, bpadm, vmadm and vltadm) are not localized. In
addition multi-byte character handling is not supported in these interfaces.
The GUI that performs the same functionality is localized. However vltopmenu
has been translated.
4. Some words have intentionally been left in English. Each of these words is
a specific NetBackup keyword. These keywords include NONE, NetBackup, and
ANYHOST.
5. Some errors may display in English. In some cases where the error was
obscure or extremely difficult to translate, the message was left in English.
These errors are not likely to occur during normal use of the product.
6. When NetBackup sends status emails, they may not appear correctly or it may
appear in English instead of Japanese. One example is that the bpbrm function
uses an incorrect locale when creating an email message sent using nbmail.
7. Using the print button on the license key properties screen will print
miscellaneous characters. There is a work-around, use the export button to
export the information to a text file. Then use the browser to view and print
the file in the proper encoding.
8. Some Drive Cleaning error messages in the Media Manager section of the
NetBackup Administration Console are not being displayed correctly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
D.2 UNIX
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. On UNIX, all of the Bourne shell scripts included with NetBackup intended
for customer use have not been translated for this release. Thus, the scripts
will run in English, and user prompts and all output will display in English.
2. The NetBackup Java Console printer dialogs appear in English when running
in a Japanese environment. This is due to an issue with the Java JRE 1.3.0 and
will be fixed in a future NetBackup Japanese release.
3. The File System Analyzer is not supported in the Japanese localized release.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
D.3 Windows
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Explorer Extensions feature, which allows NetBackup users to initiate
backups from Explorer, does not support Japanese versions of Windows operating
systems. A work-around for this issue is to complete backup and restores from
the NetBackup Windows GUI or commands. Backups initiated through Explorer
Extensions causes the following error to appear: could not set user id for
process(31).
2. The NetBackup Windows Java Display Console is not localized in NetBackup
4.5 Japanese MP9. The same functionality is localized and can be used in the
standard NetBackup Windows GUI.
3. When the log files are viewed with a text editor, pathnames with Japanese
characters may appear as unrecognizable characters. The pathnames in the log
file are written in UTF-8 encoding.
To view pathname information in a log file, open the log file with an editor
or Internet browser and change the encoding system to UTF-8. You will then be
able to view the pathnames with Japanese characters, but other text in the log
will not display correctly. You can also use the client log file to view the
detailed pathname information.
4. Some of exported reports and Job Details of the Activity Monitor may appear
as unrecognizable characters when they are viewed with a text editor. To view
these files correctly, open the exported file with an editor or Internet
browser that can change the encoding to "Unicode" (UTF-16, little endian).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
D4. Lotus Notes:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. The Lotus Domino directory must be in English.
2. For Solaris, the paths to and the database names in the Lotus Domino
database must be in English.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
D5. Vault:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Vault Report titles are in English for this release. If Vault profiles were
created using a previous release of NetBackup Japanese, report titles for these
profiles will be in Japanese, and the titles will not display correctly.
2. The subject line of the vlteject e-mails appear to be non-localizable.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
D6. GDM
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. In the NetBackup Java GDM, the text strings in the print dialogs display in
English.
2. The text strings that appear in the status bar are not localized to
Japanese.
