Issue

After installation of pcAnywhere Solution Service Pack 1, the values of the canned host configuration policies are reverted back to the defaults, and clones of host configuration policies are missing.

Environment

pcAnywhere Solution with Service Pack 1, version 12.5.415

Solution

This issue is resolved in Service Pack 2 (12.5.0.539) of pcAnwhere

If you have Service Pack 1 (12.5.0.415) and are unable to update at this time, follow the information below:

One solution is to recreate the policies that were removed during the upgrade to SP1.

Another solution is to run the following SQL script, either just before migration to SP1 or after migration to SP1.  The pre-SP1 policies are removed from the Symantec Management Console, but they actually still exist in the database.  The following script will make them visible again in the console under Settings > Agents/Plug-ins > Remote Management > Remote Control, below the appropriate operating system.

Note that this work-around involves updating items in the database by running SQL statements against the Symantec database within SQL Server Management Studio.  Also, note that this article was written for servers running the English language, so the default policy Name values shown in the SQL commands below may require translation to other languages.

Please contact Symantec Technical Support if you are not comfortable with updating the database using SQL commands.
