Problem

Check that the VSFW service is running, and check the status of existing disk groups and volumes" appears when performing a backup of a server with Advanced Open File Option (AOFO) and VERITAS Storage Foundation for Windows installed.
Error
Final error: 0xe0008527 - VERITAS Storage Foundation for Windows (VSFW) unexpectedly failed. Check that the VSFW service is running, and check the status of existing disk groups and volumes.
Solution
This error occurs while backing up a server which has VERITAS Storage Foundation for Windows (VSFW) installed on the server and it is being backed up using Advanced Open File Option (AOFO). The user gets the following errors as displayed in Figures 1 - 3.

Resolution :
The VSFW Volume Shadow Copy Service provider allows for backup applications to utilize the FlashSnap option of VERITAS Storage Foundation for Windows as a solution for Volume Shadow Copy backups. To control whether the provider is registered for use with the Volume Shadow Copy Service for Microsoft Windows Server 2003, use the commands listed below.
1. Open the Command prompt on the server on which you are getting error.
2. Run the command VxVSSProvider /regserver
(This command registers the Volume Shadow Copy service.)
