Issue

Rolled out Software Updates and now getting a repeating error:

The error repeats in a pop up and appears to render the client machine useless until all pop ups are closed.

Typed out if needed:

16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem
C:\PROGRA`1\Altiris\ALTIRI~1\SOFTWA~1\{7F67D~1\cache\WINDOW~1.EXE.
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:0546 IP:026b OP:63 30 63 30 63 Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

Environment

Patch Management 6.2.3644 SP1

Cause

Update was staged and the Package executible was not complete.

There was an executible file type, but the size was much too small.

Regular size was about 500mb and the files concerning the recent rolled out updates were only showing around 2mb.

Solution

Worked through Package Refresh on the Notification Server.

Deleted Package Resources. Deleted Physical downloaded packages.

Restaged Updates on the Manage Software Updates Page (Right click 'Disable' then right click 'Stage').

This process is generalized at KB 42505.
