When using Eset's NOD32 application, excluding bpcd.exe and bpinetd.exe from being scanned on the NetBackup client can help prevent errors from occurring on back up.  If these files are scanned during a back up it can result in a Status 13 (file read failed), Status 54 (timed out connecting to client) or Status 58 (can't connect to client).  These errors are not caused by issues in the NetBackup software.  Rather, they are due to the interaction between the Eset NOD32 anti-virus software and Veritas NetBackup.  For more information on why this errors can occur, see TechNote 257698 in the Related Documents section below.

To allow NOD32 and the NetBackup client to co-exist, perform the following on the client in question:

1.  Exclude bpcd.exe and bpinetd.exe from within the NOD32 Internet Monitor (IMON):
a. From the NOD32 Control Center, select IMON under Thread Protection Modules, then select Setup (Figure 1).

b. Under IMON Setup, select the Miscellaneous tab, and click the Edit button (Figure 2).

c. In the Exclude Applications window, Click "Add" and add the following NetBackup files:
<install_Path>\NetBackup\bin\bpcd.exe
<install_Path>\NetBackup\bin\bpinetd.exe

For the default install location, the exclusions would be configured as follows (Figure 3):

d. Click OK on the exclude applications window.
e. Click OK on the IMON setup window.

2.  Stop and restart the NetBackup Client Service:
a. Right-click My Computer and select Manage.
b. Expand Services and Applications in the left pane and click Services.
c. In the right pane, locate the NetBackup Client Service.  Right-click it and select "restart".

Once the NetBackup Client service has been restarted, backups should no longer fail with a Status 13 (file read failed), Status 54 (timed out connecting to client) or Status 58 (can't connect to client).
