Problem
Performance counters for Microsoft Exchange disappear after an Exchange service group is switched to a different node in a Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows HA cluster.
Solution
Workaround
The issue can be resolved by excluding the following keys from the attributes of the regrep resource in the Exchange service group: (add the following keys into the ExcludeKeys attribute within the properties of the regrep resource) This will stop the replication of the Performance key of each service during failover.
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeSA\Performance
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\Performance
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeMTA\Performance
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\POP3Svc\Performance
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\IMAP4Svc\Performance
NOTE: The abbreviation "HKLM" is
intentional and should be used instead of "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE."
Background
This behavior may occur if the data contained in the following registry keys do not match on each node:
1.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Perflib\0
09\Counters
The data in this value is referenced by the "First Counter"
and "Last Counter" values contained in the following registry keys:
2.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchange[service]
\Performance
In some cases, the servers may have different values for
these keys, causing Exchange performance counters to disappear after an Exchange
service group is switched to another node.
By default, Storage Foundation (tm) HA for Windows replicates the following performance keys between servers during a failover:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchange[service]
\Performance
By default, Storage Foundation (tm) HA for Windows replicates the following performance keys between servers during a failover:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchange[service]
\Performance
Since the "First Counter" and
"Last Counter" values may actually be different on each node, replicating these
keys may causes these values to be overwritten with values from another node
that do not match the keys contained under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Perflib\0\09\Counters.
This issue is not specific to Storage Foundation clusters
and is documented in Microsoft Article
