Problem
File size emulation cannot be deactivated in Veritas Enterprise Vault (tm) 6.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2).
Solution
As stated in the release notes for Enterprise Vault 6.0
Service Pack 2, placeholders used by Enterprise Vault for File System Archiving
are created as sparse files to provide a significant performance improvement,
when listing the contents of folders containing placeholders.
Following this change, the size of placeholders is no longer reported by the File System Archiving filter driver, but by the operating system.
Prior to Service Pack 2, it was possible to activate or deactivate file size emulation, through a registry key, in which case placeholders would show with the size of the file they replaced, or with a size of 0K.
With Service Pack 2, file size emulation cannot be deactivated for files archived after this service pack has been installed; therefore, placeholders for these files will always show the size of the file they replace, regardless of the setting of the file size emulation registry key.
Files archived prior to the installation of Service Pack 2 can still have their size emulation controlled through the registry, however if these files are recalled and subsequently archived, the newly created shortcut will become a sparse file and the original file size will be reported.
