VI. VERSION HISTORY
I. INTRODUCTION
nbsupport - A software
utility that will create a support package consisting of multiple reports most
often asked for by NetBackup Support personnel. An Administrator or Root
user is required to execute these commands via the command-line. Upon
execution, nbsupport will begin running multiple NetBackup and OS vendor
supplied commands. The resultant output is sent to multiple report files.
If available via the PATH
environment variable, nbsupport will utilize tar and compression
utilities to create a support package file for each nbsupport
session. Once the support package has been created, it can be sent to a
Symantec Veritas NetBackup Support Engineer.
II. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
NetBackup requirements:
In order for nbsupport to
operate properly, the following NetBackup Software must be installed:
- NetBackup 4.5 GA or above.
Master Server software or
Media Server software or
Client software
Operating System Requirements:
On Windows, the availability of
the GNU tar and gzip utilities via the Administrator's PATH
environment variable allows nbsupport to automate the bundling of its
output into a support package.
On UNIX, the availability of tar
and compress utilities via the root user's PATH environment variable
allows nbsupport to automate the bundling of its output into a support
package.
On either platform, if these
utilities are not available, the output from nbsupport will have to be
manually bundled.
III. NEW FEATURES/FIXES IN 2.1
o For NetBackup 6.0
systems, added reporting of Enterprise Media Manager (EMM) server configuration
settings.
o For NetBackup Windows
installation, added reporting of bpps output.
o On the Windows platform,
altered nbsupport to use the system's gzip and tar programs if they are
available.
o Ported nbsupport
to AIX and LINUX 32 bit platforms.
o On UNIX platforms,
altered nbsupport to use the system's compress and tar programs.
o For HP, altered the
reports to include the /etc/lanscan and
uptime commands. Removed the
ioscan -fnkCfc
and /etc/defaultrouter
commands. Added the NetWork Services Access report. Added the
Environment and Environment Local reports.
o For Solaris, altered the
reports to include the /usr/sbin/sysdef -i
command.
o Corrected a bug where
the bpdbjobs output file was not being
named correctly.
o Altered
the tpconfig command to use only the
-d option versus
-ld.
o Altered the Available
Media Report to run as part of the master server group versus the media sever
group.
o For Solaris, added a
report to cat the /etc/nscd.conf file.
o For Solaris, Changed the
Device Information Report to use iostat -xnp
versus just iostat.
