Storage Exec Hotfix 22 was released to resolve a Storage Exec report issue that occurred when Japanese characters are present in the names of Storage Exec Managed objects. The file SERptGenU.dll was updated by Storage Exec Hotfix 22. Since all Storage Exec 5.3 hotfixes are cumulative,  this same file, SERptGenU.dll, is updated by Storage Exec 5.3 Hotfix 23, therefore,  it can also cause the application error as described below.

SERptGenU.dll is identified as the faulting application when running a Storage Exec report after installing Storage Exec Hotfix 22 and/or Hotfix 23.

It is possible to replace this one file, SERptGenU.dll, with the previous version to resolve the application error. To download the previous version of SERptGenU.dll  click on the Download Now link below. The file version of SERptGenU.dll provided is 5.3.2190.13.

Instructions to replace the SERptGenU.dll

1. Download SERptGenU_284287.dll
2. Rename SERptGenU_284287.dll to SERptGenU.dll
3. Stop the Storage Exec services: FileScreen Server and QuotaAdvisor Server
4. Open Windows Explorer and browse to the Storage Exec application directory,  typically C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Storage Exec\bin
5. Rename the current SERptGenU.dll to SERptGenU.HF22
6. Copy in the version of SERptGenU.dll provided in the Download Now link below
7. Start the Storage Exec services: FileScreen Server and QuotaAdvisor Server
8. Verify the version of SERptGenU.dll is 5.3.2190.13

Once the file has been replaced,  the application fault should no longer occur.



Storage Exec Hotfix 22 is no longer available for download.

Storage Exec 5.3 Hotfix 23 is required to update to Storage Exec 5.5, so it is still available for download, but Storage Exec Hotfix 23 should only be installed in order to upgrade a server from Storage Exec 5.3 to Storage Exec 5.5.
If Storage Exec 5.3 Hotfix 23 has already been installed and Storage Exec is experiencing the application error as described above, then the replacement SERptGenU.dll provided by this document can be utilized.
