GENERAL ERROR: The following error is returned when starting the Enterprise Vault mailbox archiving task "An error occurred initializing the COM Objects required. The parameter is incorrect. [0x80070057]"

An error occurred initializing the COM Objects required. The parameter is incorrect. [0x80070057]
Solution
This error may occur when attempting to start the mailbox
archiving task. Check the Event Viewer logs and Dtrace logs for possible causes
before starting the troubleshooting steps listed below. For more
information on Dtrace please see the Related Documents section.
Cause:
This error could be caused if the DefaultRetentionCategoryId in the Site Entry table is blank or set to NULL.

This error may be caused by a MAPI problem on the Enterprise Vault server. The Mapi32.dll file is located in C:\Windows\System32 and may have been replaced by an older version of the file.

Enterprise Vault Version 5:
1. Open the Enterprise
Vault Administration Console (VAC).
2. Right-click on the
Site then select Properties.
3. In Site
Properties select the Archiving Defaults tab.
4. In the Use this
Retention Category Section click on the drop down box and select the
retention category name.
5. Click
OK.
6. Restart the Enterprise
Vault Admin Service.
Enterprise Vault Version 6 and 7:
1. Open the VAC.
2. Right-click on the
Site and select Properties.
3. In Site
Properties select the Archiving Defaults tab.
4. In the Retention
Category Section click on the drop down box and select the retention
category name.
5. Click
OK
6. Restart the Enterprise
Vault Admin Service

If the error continues follow the next step to fix MAPI:
Fix the MAPI issue.
1. On the Enterprise Vault
server click Start | Run.
2. Type fixmapi.exe
and click OK.
3. Reboot the Enterprise
Vault server.
If the issue continues follow the next step:
Retype the Vault Service Account (VSA) password within the
VAC.
1. Open the VAC.
2. Right-click on
Directory on <Servername> and choose Properties.
3. Retype the VSA password
in the Service Account tab.
4. Click Apply then
click OK.
If the issue continues remove Outlook and perform a custom
install of Outlook 2003 + CDO components.
