Problem
During backup or restore of EMC NAS Servers, IBM Filers, or NetApp Filer Systems, the file and directory count seen in the Activity Monitor or the job log / job history is displayed as 0.
Solution
During backup or restore of EMC NAS Servers, IBM Filers, or NetApp Filer Systems, no file or directory count is seen in the activity monitor or the job log/ job history. The files/directories processed count is displayed as 0.
Note:
- 1. During a backup the information about the Number of Files/Directories backed up or restored is not available when the "File History" is disabled.
2. During a Restore this information is not available.
3. During a Verify this information is not available.
The job log will show an informational Exception alert V-79-8192-4872 or V-79-8192-4881:
"The count of Files and Directories processed is not available for this operation. The File and Directory count might be displayed as zero."
To enable or disable File History:
- 1. Go to Tools > Options > Job Defaults > NDMP. (FIGURE 1)
2. Check the box next to Disable file history.
(FIGURE 1)
Select this option to prevent the generation of file history data. File history is used to optimize recovery of selected subsets of data from the backup image. File history generation and processing increase the backup time, so check the Disable file history option to improve backup performance.
If file history is made unavailable and data must later restored, restore the entire backup image.
NOTE: Backup jobs with Verify and file history enabled will complete with the exception during the Verify portion of the job. The job log will report ."The count of Files and Directories processed is not available for this operation. The File and Directory count might be displayed as zero." under the Verify portion of the job log (FIGURE 2). This is expected behavior.

NOTE: NDMP option becomes the following display in case of BE 2010 or later (FIGURE 3).
